2024 INTESOL Pre-Conference: WIDA Standards and Topics in Indiana TESOL

On November 22nd, 2024 from 9 am to 4 pm at the Marriott East in Indianapolis, we are hosting an INTESOL pre-conference.

Registration costs $75, and is open to ENL specialists, leadership, and anyone concerned with teaching language learners in Indiana.

Registration is limited to 100. Lunch is provided. 

9:00 - 12:00: Opportunities for Multilingual Learner Advocacy with IDOE

In this session, IDOE will introduce timely topics impacting ML students in different corners of education and lead collaborative conversations amongst participants. From welcoming and serving newcomers to EL Teacher of Record staffing & responsibilities to implementing the WIDA Standards framework, and more in between, attendees will discuss opportunities and actionable steps to advocate for better experiences and outcomes for MLs in their local settings. It is intended for teachers, school and district administrators, and others working with MLs in PK-12 settings who are seeking to grow their network and their impact both in and outside of their schools. 

1:00 - 4:00: Topics in Indiana TESOL - MLs and Special Populations

Dr. Donna Albrecht will lead afternoon activities on topics in TESOL. This will begin with a panel presentation on special populations of MLs, including discussing of services provided to MLs with disabilities and patterns in over/under identification, high ability MLs, and more. This will be followed by regional discussion groups as well as discussion of resources available for supporting MLLs, special population or otherwise.
