Indiana Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages

2021 Keynote Speaker

Faridah Pawan, Ph.D. Professor, ESL/EFL Teacher Professional Development, Department of Instructional Systems Technology/Adult Education, Indiana University.

Topic: “Resilience and Reinvention”: Culturally & linguistically inclusive online instruction & the consequent reconceptualization & glocalization of professional development.

There are two parts to presentation. The first, are strategies and resources to design and supplement culturally and linguistically inclusive (CLI) online instruction in ways that reflect and encompass the diversity of learner experiences and backgrounds. The second will consist of guidance for teachers to seek meaningful ways to sustain their expertise to teach in such a way, in the post-pandemic era where online instruction will continue to persist, and where heutagogy and self-directed learning are mainstays of teacher learning. Teachers will then have access to a free, self-paced professional development course & materials funded by the Indiana Governor’s Emergency Educational Relief (GEER) grant.
