Report from Japan
Shigetake Ushigusa, Ph.D.
After 17 years of staying in the Midwest (mainly in Indiana), I returned to Japan. I have lived in Tokyo, my hometown, since May this year. My extended stay in the U.S. first as a graduate student and eventually as an assistant professor was all linked with TESOL and language education. I have enjoyed chances to rest, reflect on my US experiences, and look at TESOL-related phenomena in Japan from a novel viewpoint. In this small piece of writing, I would like to mainly report on some interesting facts associated directly or indirectly with TESOL in Japan. This essay may be taken as a collection of unrelated pieces of information that I have recently learned and my impressions on them.
